McBrayer Genealogy
History
Supposedly, James Knot McBrayer and his wife Jane Montgomery traveled from Ireland to Pennsylvania, either in the late 1600s or early 1700s. They have three sons, William, David, and James who were either born in Ireland or in Pennsylvania. See the Descendant List of James Knot McBrayer for more information.
From what we can tell so far, is that all McBrayers in the United States can be traced to this family. There is still much work to be done on properly sourcing and connecting McBrayer profiles to confirm this assertion.
Name Variants
It seems that the descendants of David McBrayer, who is the third son of William McBrayer (see History, above), all changed their last names to either Brier or Briar. These name variants should be noted.
There is also another branch that is going by MacBrayer. See the profile for Lewis Burgin MacBrayer, Jr. and the photo of his gravestone.
